What would it be like to have an ability that allows you to see when someone is going to die, or see when a lie is being told, or see a person’s emotions? In this manga, children are born with a special filter called an iris that allows them to see something unique to that person. Each iris is different, in its abilities, making each child special. But, what if you were born without an iris? What if you were a child who could not see anything special at all? That person is considered an iris zero.
Iris Zero is about a young boy named Mizushima, who does not have an iris. Other children hate him because he is not special. To avoid being tormented by his classmates Mizushima tries to go unnoticed. Unfortunately for him he gets noticed by the most popular girl in school, because he is the only one who can help her.
I really want to tell you all about the mysteries he solves and the personal stories of the characters but I don’t want to ruin it for you. My lips are sealed and you must read the story for yourself. It is totally worth it. Mizushima is a really cool character. He has a lot of insight about what is going on around him and his friends. He is an observant and clever character similar to Sherlock Holmes. Because of this he is able to solve problems that many of the characters don’t understand.
If you like mysteries, with a hint of supernatural, and a dash of light-hearted school romance, then you will love this manga. The mysteries themselves are fairly dark, but the light friendships balance the story.
